Thanks Aunt Lynne! March 27, 2008
Lily got a package in the mail the other day from her Auntie Lynne in Massachusetts. It contained two cute baby turtlenecks (or turtle babynecks?) and a tactile book. After she chewed on the corners a little bit, she figured out how to flip the pages and now gets a kick out of the interesting textures inside.
That’s Odd March 27, 2008
First it started hailing. Then came the slush. And then it seemed what was falling was actually snow. But that was yesterday, and it all melted. Nature apparently had another trick up her sleeve, however, because we woke up to find our world looking more like December than March.
In other news, I didn’t post anything yesterday despite my promise. I’ll be doing penance today, I assure you. Perhaps three posts in one day? Perhaps.
Out and About March 25, 2008
Lily and I haven’t explored a whole lot of Tacoma yet. We moved here just before winter, the least opportune season for venturing outdoors in this land of rain and rain and more rain. Last Thursday, however, we decided to hit the town for Tacoma’s Third Thursday Art Walk, come rain or come hellfire. And rain it did—it poured, in fact. After Mr. D dropped us off in soggy downtown Tacoma, I secured Lily in a front pack, and we headed straight for the Museum of Glass. We spent an hour meandering through the current colorful exhibit, which was incredible enough to elicit almost nonstop waving from Lily. (As in, Hello orange vase! Hello multicolored goblets! Hello random woman! Hello everything!) Unfortunately one isn’t allowed to take photos inside, but I snapped this consolation touristy shot of us in front of the museum’s “hot shop,” inside which scruffy, pierced, young folk demonstrate the fiery skills required to make glass objets d’art.
A Timeline by Fits and Starts March 24, 2008
Lily was born into a pool of warm water on June 4, 2007, at 6:23 p.m. in Portland, Oregon. We were home four hours later, with our 7-lb. 12-oz. bundle. This photo was taken two or three days later:
This must have been sometime in August:
Jumping much further ahead, here is Lily on January 27, 2008, the day after she first crawled:
And here is the newly free-standing babe, three short days ago:
Awesome Aunt Kelly March 23, 2008
In only the second Lily-sitting feat ever, Kelly watched the chubby little monster a week and a half ago, while Matt was away and I was occupied with a final exam. Knowing as we do Lily’s capability for unfettered displays of baby angst, I think it’s safe to say nobody was sure how the night would go. (The first babysitting adventure, when we lived in Portland, was an hours-long cry-fest.) But three hours after I left aunt and niece together, I returned, hungry, frazzled, and tested out, to find Kelly and Lily both as calm as can be, getting along beautifully.
Dragging Our Feet March 23, 2008
We’ve got some serious catching up to do, don’t we? Lily and I haven’t really been busy, but yet we’ve been awfully…busy. Ya know? Lily is at that age when time doesn’t seem to pass so much as get sucked away into the ether. For those concerned that the inattention we show to this blog might be a reflection of inattention in other areas of our lives, rest assured, we do keep on top of things such as eating, changing diapers, washing diapers, folding diapers, and eating. Everything else, however, may fall by the wayside.
This, then, was a while ago. A week, let’s say.
I hereby promise to post at least one new photo a day for the next week.
